Don’t leave contacting a trainer to when you’re already experiencing behavioural issues with your dog. If at the very first sign of maybe having a problem, a trainer can help you to address it early on and save you a great deal of heartache.
Koba’s owner came to us for some basic puppy foundations and what a handsome lad he is. Rather than jumping in with the generic cookie-cutter training plan we actually spent the time to learn about the dog, what makes him tick, where his weaknesses are, and where his strengths lie.
As is typical with GSD’s he’s hyper aware, sensitive and too smart for his own good. It’s important that we’re making things really black and white for our dogs because they’re smart enough to make decisions for themselves, but they won’t often make the right ones.
One area that we identified would need focusing on is his environmental sensitivity. Whether it’s arriving at new places, busy environments, interacting with new people, unfamiliar objects, or new scents, it’s important we familiarise our dogs with as much as we can. Due to the lockdown there are going to be dogs that haven’t been able to be exposed to environmental stressors as readily.
With the focus being placed on relationship building and environmental conditioning, Kobas’ owners will be able to help build his confidence and have a much better foundation for any training and obedience down the line.
We know they’ll do amazing and we’re really looking forward to working with them again in the future.
