We had this handsome lad in today for some training support with his leash pulling. His pulling had gotten so out of hand he’d pulled his owner over, resulting in being unable to take him anywhere other than the woods where he could roam freely.
After going through some of the fundamentals with Cliff and his owner we moved onto adding distractions in the form of speed, and then work with our stooge dogs. He responded so well that we were able to quickly advance to taking him to the local park, something he hasn’t been able to do since before lockdown.
Cliff has been attacked by other dogs before so is always a little wary. And because of the negative experiences, his owner has become wary and unsure of how to interact with other dogs, so we went through a couple of common scenarios and how to handle them if something were to happen in the future.
He handled everything that was thrown at him today in such a busy environment and I’m 100% confident his owner will have him exactly as they’d like within days of this session.
Leash pulling is a VERY simple problem to fix with the right skills, and it’s something people struggle with every single day for years. Don’t allow walks to become the bane of your life for something that the right trainer can fix in no time at all.
To finish the session we went over how to clean Cliff’s paws, as typically he will try to avoid it and put his teeth on you to get you to stop. Within minutes his paws were cleaned and dried with no drama at all.
It’s great to occasionally see people who don’t have terrible behaviour problems and just want to improve on the simple issues. My heart will always be in serious problem behaviours, but on a day like today, a pleasant stroll around the local park is always welcomed. Great job guys!
