We’ve had Pablo back with us for another session to continue on his progress, this time upping the stakes and beginning to implement the foundations in an area of higher distraction – the local park.
This is the first time Pablo has been in an environment like this in honestly god knows how long as he’s exclusively been taken to a private paddock to exercise due to his severe reactivity to people and other dogs. For his first time visit, he absolutely nailed it.
He had a few moments of reactivity, but we’d be lying if we said we didn’t expect that to be the case moving from an area of moderate to very high distraction. With runners, cyclists, dogs and people to contend with, advancing towards park walks was always going to be a big leap for him, but an essential step in proofing his training in real life environments.
Going from a severely reactive dog that couldn’t make it out of the house to a dog that can be walked around a busy park with another person and their dog (video in comments) is a huge step for Pablo and showing clear sign that all of the work he and his owner are putting in is reaping the rewards.
In future sessions we’ll continue to proof and build upon his foundations in the park and really get him to a stage where he can live an ordinary life like any other dog. Be sure to follow his progress, especially if you have a dog with similar issues.
Well done again guys! You’re really killing it.
