Diesel’s owner contacted us after having a few issues and was really keen to address them before they started to become real problems further down the line.
When they arrived you could see that he was really just at ‘that age’ where he was pushing his boundaries and making decisions for himself. Without clear guidance on what we do and don’t want from our dogs it can be difficult for them to navigate the world in a way we would ideally like, ultimately leading them towards making some poor decisions.
With Diesel, we worked on his fundamentals to help provide him with a good foundation for any future training and behaviours. We covered how to teach reliable eye contact, positions, loose leash walking, markers and different uses of reinforcement.
We worked with one of our stooge dogs to begin conditioning a better response to seeing other dogs, as typically he’d lose engagement and find himself barking and lunging towards the end of his leash. Diesel had simply learned that other dogs were the main source of fun while out on walks and anything in his way was causing him to become frustrated.
Using the engagement principles and fundamentals we’d introduced earlier, we had Diesel walking around and engaging with his owner again, even in the presence of our stooge dog and with ease.
Now his owner has the tools she needs and confidence in her own handling, her progress will continue and get Diesel back on the right track and get the perfect dog she has inside of the house, outside of the house.
Great work guys, keep us updated with your training!
