Rambo’s owner wanted us to take a look at his reluctancy to go out on walks and his reactivity to traffic.
We got Rambo straight out for a walk to see what was going on and it didn’t take long to see what the issue was. His fear of traffic was making him freeze up and then his refusal to walk would start.
We put a training plan in place to look at conditioning a better response to traffic moving forwards that will teach Rambo to ease his anxieties without fear and avoidance.
While out on walks Rambo would start to refuse to walk and if any pressure to continue would be applied he’d become dramatic and throw crocodile roll, biting the leash, and lying on his side refusing to move. His owners had fallen into the habit of reacting to his behaviour in a way that was ultimately leading to reinforcing his fears.
With a few changes to their handling and engagement we had him much calmer and walking nicely past traffic and heading in the right direction.
