Indy’s owners reached out to us to get some help with her reactivity towards other dogs while out on walks. When seeing dogs she’d be pulling, lunging and barking to get at them and her owners confidence in how to handle it had dissolved.
Lockdown has exacerbated the issues that many dogs and their owners face and made many feel like they’ve gone completely backwards in their training. We all need help, to get us back on the wagon, or simply to share the load. You should never feel defeated or embarrassed to admit you need support.
In Indy’s case she was really confused in her thinking and associations towards other dogs. Part of her wanted to socialise and engage, while another part of her wanted to give them a clear warning she wasn’t to be messed with (video in comments).
We got to work on addressing the factors that lead to her building and beginning to become reactive and implemented clear boundaries. By emphasising what behaviours we loved and didn’t love we were able to help navigate Indy through the interactions with a new perspective and approach.
Within no time at all Indy was working alongside her owners around 5-6 dogs, working for food, walking beautifully on a leash and generally a much happier and confident dog. Making better and better decisions as she went.
Another session spent with the best owners a dog could ask for. Great work guys and keep up the good work!
